GYPSIE'SÂ STORY
"The Pup Chooses Who They Belong To"
It was an early August morning (2:50 am), when Bandi began to whelp the "Fall Babies of 2021" Litter. Puppies were delivered one after the other within three and forty-five minute increment ranges, naturally and without a struggle 1,2,3,4,5... I thought she was done. After waiting over an hour for a possible number 6 (around 6:15am), I began to clean up and went to make coffee and wake the kids.
When I returned (at 6:48am), I noticed a teeny tiny life laying next to the others. It was Gypsy, a mere 0.35lb puppy compared to her littermates averaging at 0.46 lbs. The shape of her head seemed a little different in comparison to what I knew, so I had the vet take a look at her when they were taken in for dewclaw removal. All was well.
She continued to grow and thrive, like her siblings. She grew at the most rapid rate between days five and nine when she almost doubled her weight from .59lbs to almost a full pound! At this age, good indicators that something is not quite right is the lack of weight gain. Gypsie was thriving!

It was a warm September day, Emma arrived with her family expecting to meet the puppy that would replace her late dog Lucy, whom she lost after sharing thirteen wonderful years. She firmly believed that it was not her decision to choose her puppy, but rather the puppy that would choose her. All of the puppies loved Emma, but only one came to her, laid in her lap, and fell asleep...content. But this pup was already selected by another buyer. Luckily, as fate would have it, she was willing to trade and preferred to color pattern of another puppy and made the switch. Gypsie had her Emma, and Emma had her Gypsie.

After Gypsie went home, Robin noticed something was different about Gypsie's bite. It was determined that she, in fact, had an underbite. After a visit to the vet, the owners learned the underbite was cosmetic and not something that would cause her pain or long-term struggles with eating or enjoying daily life. As of March 2022, she was seven months old and weighed 5.2 lbs. In the words of Shakespeare, "She be but little, but she is fierce."

Though many would look at Gypsie and see her as "flawed", "incorrect", "not having the look" she should, it is my firm belief that she is everything an Aussie should ever be. Her wiggle-butt, break- dancing is by far the cutest thing you will ever see! Most importantly, she has brought healing to Emma's broken heart, just as they do for so many others who are hurting. This is what makes Gypsie more Aussie than any other physical trait you could pick her apart for....and her momma would dare anyone to!

The message Robin and Emma would like you to get out of all of this is that when you are getting ready to "choose" a pup, be open. Instead of insisting on having the control,
let the control be in the hands of the pup...for it is their life too.
